When John receives news that a doctor may be able to help David, he is happy to find a cure but concerned about financing the trip. Now he must make the difficult decision between treating his son or preserving the friendship between the boy and his dog. Walking Thunder: Jacob McKay is only 14 years old when his family heads West in 1850. Their journey is halted by a bear attack that destroys their wagon and forces them to set up camp in the Rockies, where they meet a medicine man and a mountain man. Jacob, inspired by their knowledge of the land, sets out to learn their ways.
