Ashley meets her great-uncle by the old train tracks near their community in Nova Scotia and sees his sadness. Her uncle tells her of the past when he and other children from their community were forced to board the train being taken to a residential school where their lives were changed forever. They don't allow the children to speak Mi'gmaq and were punished if they did. They had no one love and comfort them. But Uncle says she and her sister bring him happines. They give him hope.
